Of the Aprilia All Stars 2024, days after the event, one thing resonates above all: the chronometric record recorded by Miguel Oliveira with the standard RS 660 Extrema. Not just the sound of the glorious 2Ts nor the brutal power of the Aprilia RS-GP, two aspects that have certainly remained in the minds of fans of the Noale company. What is “making the news” is the Portuguese’s “tempone”. Demonstrating the fact that the qualities of the average Italian sports car are of the highest level: fun on the road and super effective on the track thanks to a super engine and a reference chassis.

As we well know, last Saturday 8 June the Misano racetrack was the scene of a record-breaking edition of Aprilia All Stars: among the many dedicated activities, the over 20,000 enthusiasts who invaded the paddock of the Romagna circuit were able to watch for the first time at the Race of Stars, an original pairs challenge between the best Aprilia riders of the present and past, riding the completely standard Aprilia RS 660 Extrema. The race regulations, drawn up in collaboration with the FMI, in fact required that the RS 660 Extrema be exactly as they left the assembly line, with the sole exception of the rear-view mirrors and the license plate holder, removed for use on the track. Also interesting is the fact that the suspension set up used was the one suggested for track use in the bike’s use and maintenance manual, on which none of the competing champions intervened.

Once the rules of the game were established, the result was an exciting challenge, started with a spectacular Le Mans-style start and enlivened by two driver changes, which saw the protagonists squeeze out all the potential of the RS 660 Extrema, the sportiest and lightest in the range with its 166 kg dry weight for 100 HP of power, fitted with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC1 tires for the occasion. A race in which the duo formed by Miguel Oliveira, MotoGP rider of the Trackhouse team, and MotoGP legend Loris Capirossi prevailed. It was the Portuguese who set the record lap in 1’45”467. But all the drivers, both in practice and in the race, ran sensational times, sensational results, constantly between 45″ and 46″, obtained only after a few laps available for qualifying, which demonstrate the great performance qualities of the sports media of Noale and its ease. Times in the order of 5″ higher than those needed to win a National Trophy 600 race within the Civ context.

Aprilia RS 660 Extrema

The standard equipment of the Extrema includes a lighter exhaust system approved by SC Project with a carbon terminal positioned on the right side (and no longer under the engine). The front mudguard and the new design of the tip under the engine, both made of carbon, also contribute to the overall weight reduction. The sportiness of the RS 660 Extrema is also emphasized by the single-seater tail (the passenger seat is supplied with the bike); to the rich standard electronic equipment on the basic RS 660 (traction control, ABS Cornering, engine brake maps, engine maps and wheelie control, all adjustable) the RS 660 Extrema also features the software that allows you to set the quickshift gearbox in configuration reversed. In this way the gearbox can be configured in total autonomy, without replacing any component of the motorbike, in road or reverse version, ideal for track riding.
