An open wound in Puglia, a real massacre that has lasted for 15 years, that of Xylella fastidiosa, to eradicate which unlimited compensation is certainly not useful, especially if it is not clear now how to act in favor of olive growing companies, to restore the value of our green gold.
This is why one wonders: what has the Puglia Region done in all this time?
The Hon. asked this in the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies. Giandonato La Salandra, Apulian member of the same: “I asked for the expansion of the fact-finding investigation of the Parliamentary Commission on the topic of possible adequacy – or perhaps inadequacy, precisely on the basis of the latest hearings. And with respect to how effective or not the Puglia Region’s commitment was, even going as far as, as it would seem, causing further damage to the olive sector”.
The Agriculture Commission’s investigation included hearings from researchers and associations category regarding the phenomenon and also the completion of the extraordinary plan for the olive regeneration of Puglia.
However, the importance of olive growing was also abundantly clear in the message sent by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni herself in Puglia, on the occasion of the G7, which repeatedly praised our Apulian olive trees worldwide, which represent a symbol but also flavours, tastes, identity and richness.
“I will take care, where necessary, of ask for a commission of inquiry into the matter – concludes the Apulian parliamentarian – to understand how much has been spent in recent years by the Puglia Region and the State to combat this pathogen, also with respect to the substantial inadequacy, in terms of the effects also on the landscape, of the measures adopted because, in this action, some structural deficiencies of the Region seem evident. We would not like to think that Governor Emiliano has only done damage to the dossiers he was dealing with and that only now is everyone realizing it.”
