today the Great Parade of Pride 2024

Meet in Piazza Borgo at 5pm for an event of resistance and celebration of diversity.

The city of Catania is preparing to experience an afternoon of celebration and reclamation, with Catania Pride 2024 which will be held today, Saturday 15 June. The event involves a massive participation of citizens and visitors, all united under the slogan “Queer Resistance”.

In an era where sexual and gender minorities face growing challenges, the march aims to be a powerful demonstration of solidarity and resistance.

The concentration of participants will begin at 5:00 pm in Piazza Borgo, and then move in procession at 6:30 pm. The march will start from Piazza Cavour, will wind along the picturesque Via Etnea and will end its journey in Piazza Università.

This route not only passes through some of the most emblematic places of the city, but also serves as a stage for the visibility and affirmation of LGBTQ+ rights.

At the end of the procession, the celebrations will continue at the Esagono Beach Club in Acicastello, where a big final party is planned. This moment of sharing and joy aims to strengthen community bonds and celebrate the achievements achieved, while remaining vigilant against the discrimination that persists.

The choice of the theme “Queer Resistance” reflects a clear position against oppressive policies and mentalities. This year’s Pride, in fact, openly positions itself against patriarchy and the systems of power that relegate to the margins those who do not adhere to the predominant socio-cultural norm. This event promises to be a catalyst for change, inviting everyone to actively participate in the fight for a more equal and inclusive society.

Catania Pride 2024 is also committed to supporting global causes, such as the fight against atrocities in Palestine and wars in general, underlining its anti-fascist commitment and desire to be part of a global movement for human rights.

In conclusion, Catania Pride is not just a party, but an important opportunity for reflection and political action, which acts as a spokesperson for all those “marginalized subjectivities” who aspire to a future of equal rights and opportunities.
