Modica – With schools having just closed for the summer holidays, however, the president of Anffas of Modica, Giovanni Provvidenza, comes with a warning to think now about the Asacom service so as not to be caught unprepared for the opening of the next school year. Provvidenza writes “Anffas Modica APS, as an association present in the area for over twenty years which to date represents more than 50 families, has as its institutional mission the promotion of the full inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas, from work to school, and collaborates for this purpose with the relevant institutions.
Precisely because of the values that distinguish us, we would like to share a consideration. Although the school year has just ended, it is precisely in this period that we need to lay the foundations for the start of the next one, especially for students with disabilities and their families.
In fact, we would like to remind you that a problem that presents itself promptly every September and which we could now define as “structural” is the failure to start the Asacom service (autonomy and communication assistant) within the scheduled time, with very serious damage to the students who are entitled to it. Let’s think of parents forced to go to school every two hours to assist their child in getting around or to keep them at home on the days and hours when the support teacher is not present.
To prevent this inefficiency from occurring again this September, we would like to point out that, pursuant to art. 10 of Legislative Decree 66/2017, the Headmaster is required to request assistance with autonomy and communication on the basis of the PEI “in time for the ordinary start of the school year” and therefore, as a rule, not beyond the month of July.
Given that the month of July is now upon us and that it is a programmable service, as well as being essential to avoid school exclusion, we hope that the heads of the local schools will work within the legal timescales to ensure that this September the service is active from the first day of school.
