The National Cycle Tourism Days promoted by FIAB Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation are back in Castiglione della Pescaia with the aim of making cycling tourism known to adults and children as a form of sustainable mobility.

On Sunday 16 June, everyone will be riding their bikes for a ride to discover the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve.

«We joined with great enthusiasm – says the mayor Elena Nappi – to the national cycle tourism days proposed by Fiab because they give us the opportunity to raise awareness of one of the most important treasure chests of biodiversity in Italy that we are lucky enough to have in our territory: the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve with its treasures. Thanks to the staff of the Casa Rossa Ximenes museum, participants will be able to spend moments of relaxation immersed in nature, listening to naturalistic and historical stories and enjoying extraordinary views and animals. This activity also helps us to promote experiential tourism that links sports to nature, diversifying the opportunities offered by our territory.”

The departure of the guided tour is at 5.00 pm from the Ximenes Red House Museum to travel the ring of the Nature Reserve in a 15 km excursion with stops for observation with binoculars of hawks, ducks, pink flamingos and all the fauna that populates the natural area.

The route is flat, suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over, for gravel bikes or mountain bikes. It will be an opportunity to experience a beautiful adventure, a day dedicated to nature, discovering the beauties of the area. For the excursion, for a fee (€5) and with reservation required on 0564/927244, there will be the possibility of renting a bike on site.

«For over thirty years we have been spreading the culture of cycle tourism through targeted initiatives and tools dedicated both to those traveling on two wheels and to tourism operators in the sector – he says Angelo Fedi Cycle tourism manager at FIAB –. Our commitment is to contribute to the spread of cycle tourism and active mobility throughout Europe, and these local initiatives give us the opportunity by making everyone experience these experiences firsthand and offering opportunities to get to know new territories.”
