If Italy begins to believe and
invest in the Wedding Tourism sector, i.e. in
foreigners who decide to come and get married in Italy, again
it doesn’t do enough for LGBTQ+ couples. Instead it is about
a further, great opportunity for the national system,
especially considering how large the potential market is
worldwide.
It emerges from the Italian Destination Wedding Observatory
JFC Tourism according to which marriages of LGBTQ+ couples will be expected in 2023
foreigners who have decided to confirm their union in
Italy there were 514 and they generated over 41 million euros
of turnover. The couple, in addition to making an inspection in Italy
previously, it stopped – on average – for 6.4 days while
their guests for approximately 4.5 days. Most (356) of
these weddings took place with a symbolic ceremony (69%),
while the remaining 158 (31%) were sealed through ritual
civil. These rites represent 4.3% of the total
unions between foreigners that took place in Italy during
2023: this is a number that is quite limited but which, in
In reality, it could be greatly increased.
Furthermore, the current year presents itself as another year
interesting for this market segment, with further
growth indices. 663 unions of LGBTQ+ couples are expected
foreign (+29%), thanks also to professional operators who in
2024 will organize events in our country for the first time.
The expected turnover will reach a value of 51.2 million
of Euro.
The region considered most attractive for holding
these events is Tuscany, which alone conquers 16% of the
preferences. Followed, at a short distance, by Sicily (13.8%) and La
Puglia (13.2%); Campania is also doing well
with 11.7%. Followed by Veneto, Umbria, Abruzzo, La
Lombardy, Sardinia and Emilia Romagna
