The 70th anniversary edition of Compasso d’Oro

Compasso D’Oro, one of the world’s leading awards for design quality, celebrates its 70th anniversary.

Since 1954, when Gio Ponti launched the first edition, Compasso d’Oro has been mirroring the Italian design and its evolution, in both design and production. Last 20 June, the award ceremony of Compasso d’Oro 2024 was held at the ADI Design Museum in Milan with the participation of Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region and the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala. During the event the ADI President Luciano Galimberti and Umberto Cabini, president of the ADI Collezione Compasso d’Oro Foundation celebrated the 70th anniversary and launched the ADI international edition in partnership with the General Commissioner for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka.

This edition of the International Compasso d’Oro has the task of presenting on a world stage those principles of quality of design and social responsibility which have established and consolidated the value of the Compasso d’Oro through its 70 years of history, developing the theme through the central design focus of Expo 2025 with the expression “Designing the future society for our lives”.

The Compasso d’Oro awards 2024 went to 20 productsin addition to the Compasso d’Oro Career awards which were given to 9 Italian and 2 international names who are leading figures in the world of design. Awards were also given to 3 long-selling products, examples of successful design that have been on the market for over ten years. In addition to the awards, 39 Honorable Mentions went to products chosen for their particular qualities, while for the Youth Plaque (Youth Award), the recognition reserved for design projects by students at Italian design universities, 3 awards and 9 certificates were assigned. And311 other products were also included in the catalogue.

Compasso d’Oro Career Award to Piero Lissoni

The Joint Committee of the ADI and the ADI Collezione Compasso d’Oro Foundation has awarded the Compasso d’Oro to Piero Lissoni for his career as an undisputed protagonist of Italian design culture. «A career marked by modernism – commented the jury –, a career path consisting of cohesion and method, able to offer reassuring and measured gazes combined with thrilling poetics. A career that has know how to explore and combine different project disciplines, rendering to us the idea of ​​the unitary nature of creative action».

Propeller awarded for LHOV

Among the products Propeller received the Compasso d’Oro Award for its LHOVdesigned by Fabrizio Crisà. The product was awarded in the Kitchen furniture and accessories category, with the motivation: “Technological and typological innovation combined in a product capable of satisfying the demands of the contemporary kitchen by improving air quality in domestic environments”. LHOV is an All-in-One appliance characterized by a linear design with black glass combines aesthetics and performance: perfectly flush with kitchen units, it offers innovative features, different cooking methods and areas, touch screen. Moreover its latest generation extraction system can capture vapors and odors from the hob and, for the first time ever, the oven too.
