The association which has been present in the area for over twenty years and which currently represents more than 50 families, has as its institutional mission the promotion of the full inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas, from work to school, and collaborates for this purpose with the relevant institutions. “Precisely because of the values that distinguish us – declares the association – we would like to share a consideration. A problem that presents itself punctually every September and which we could now define as “structural” is the failure to start the Asacom service (autonomy and communication assistant) on schedule, with very serious damage to the students who are entitled to it. Let’s think of parents forced to go to school every two hours to assist their child in getting around or to keep them at home on the days and hours when the support teacher is not present.
To prevent this inefficiency from appearing again in September – he continues – we point out that, pursuant to art. 10 of Legislative Decree 66/2017, the Headmaster is required to request assistance with autonomy and communication on the basis of the PEI “in time for the ordinary start of the school year” and therefore, as a rule, not beyond the month of July.
Given that the month of July is now upon us – concludes Anffas – and that this is a programmable service which is essential to avoid scholastic exclusion, we hope that the heads of the schools in the area will take action in the times of law to ensure that this September the service is active from the first day of school”
