Environmentalists chain themselves in front of the G7 Media Center in Bari: “We ask the adults to take concrete action on the climate”

A few dozen demonstrators chained themselves in front of the gates of the Media center set up for the G7, at the Fiera del Levante in Bari, as a sign of protest against the “climate narrative”.

They are part of the non-violent environmental movement Extinction Rebellion and shouting “the climate is changing and where is the G7?” they intend to maintain the garrison “in front of this symbolic place which hosts over a thousand journalists who have come to collect the declarations of the G7 leaders: we also want to make our version heard, or rather shift the attention from their declarations and focus them on their non-compliance”, explains a young demonstrator, wearing a red shirt (to indicate the red line dictated by climate change), tied with a chain to one of his peers.

“There is a lack of concrete policies to respect the international climate agreements that we said we wanted to respect,” he says, “so we ask the Italian government as Italian citizens to clearly communicate the crisis we are going through and to act immediately with radical actions and concrete”.

The demonstrators show a large red banner, with the writing: “Ecoclimatic crisis: Italy red zone”. They wear red t-shirts on which a burning olive tree stands out emerging from the waters of the Mediterranean, red from the high temperatures, from which the hands of the migrants who died during the crossing protrude. “A reinterpretation of the official logo designed for this Italian edition of the international summit”.
