Basketball in Varese has a tradition that goes back in time. Scudetti, even if the last one dates back to 1999, and European Cups, five, like nowhere else in Italy. The city recently celebrated another triumph of the ball in the FSSI Italian deaf basketball championship, won by the ENS Varese Sports Group, sponsored by Mady Gio, an influencer with several hundred thousand followers on Instagram and Only Fans. The men of the company are Andrea Piras, Luca Pirovano, Dario Pignataro, Alessandro Bartoli, Sascha Silombela, Thomas Mantovani, Alessio Avellino, Luca Venturi, Serhii Bukin, Nicolas Sellari, Carlos Zocca and Tommaso Graziosi, led off the pitch by Dario Galbiati, Cristian Gnodi and Mauro Dori.
It is the second championship in history for the club, which had already triumphed in 2017 and which had come close to winning the Italian title three times since then. This time he brought it home, triumphing in Rome, overcoming first Genoa and then PS Romana in a hard-fought final. At half-time the score was still in full balance, 26-25, but even the lead at the end of the third quarter was not such as to be considered “definitive”: 43-38. Only in the last quarter did Varese close the game with decisive plays from the Ukrainian Bukin and a triple from Avellino to put the seal on the match. The opponents no longer have time to recover the gap. Final: 59-52. At the end of the match it was a celebration for everyone, with captain Nicolas Sellari called to be the first to raise the coveted trophy to the sky. Luca Pirovano, however, goes the title of MVP of the championship, further recognition of the season played by the red and whites.
