VENICE, THE RESIDENTS ARE A THIRD OF THE TOURISTS

The residents in Venice are approximately one third compared to the tourists present in the city. Numbers which clearly illustrate the situation of enormous tourist pressure to which the lagoon capital is subjected and which, according to the opposition council group Tutta la Città Insieme, certify the failure of the access fee.

The reflection is the result of an extensive work of collecting and comparing data which, in their opinion, would contradict the optimism of Mayor Brugnaro, who in recent weeks said he had detected a drop in tourists on days with the sticker.

In the first 11 days of the ticket, on average, 17 thousand people paid the 5 euros every day. To which, however, we must add the 60 thousand exempt students, workers and non-paying visitors and the 55 thousand who stay in accommodation facilities and therefore pay the tourist tax instead of the ticket. Total? Approximately 132 thousand non-Venetian people compared to less than 50 thousand residents (realistically no more than 40 thousand, and in any case continuously decreasing).

A very heavy pressure that puts at risk the maintenance of services for citizens: healthcare, transport, waste management. Not to mention the consequences regarding pollution and wave motion.

Without considering that paying visitors are only a fraction of those staying in accommodation facilities (many of which, moreover, are illegal).
