So, the requests for renewal of the investigative measures that the Prosecutor’s Office made on Monday are welcome”: this is how Daniela Castellano, daughter of Enrico, one of the victims of the train disaster between Andria and Corato, comments on the start of the second degree trial on 12 July 2016.

«Regardless of human error – declares Castellano –, if there had been safety there would have been no deaths. The question is recurring: if the speed reduction to 50km/h had been implemented, would there have been an accident or not?

«I am happy – he adds – that the President of the Court, Doctor Antonio Civita, listened to every single reply yesterday, thus demonstrating great attention to the topic. We need a second trial because the first one frankly didn’t convince me at all. Just think of the whole procedure, the various court changes. I have always defined it as a show trial.”

Meanwhile, on the eve of the eighth anniversary, feelings do not change for Daniela: «Whatever I do, when the image of those sheets of metal scattered in the agricultural field or of my father’s body that I recognized on July 13th, the day of his name day, I think my life is marked forever. Those scenes – she concludes – are written inside me.”
