Between illegal construction, illicit management of quarries and state concessions, the Italian coasts are increasingly tight in the grip of illegal cement. In particular Southern Italy, with Campania which holds the negative record of the main victim of illegal brick: in 2023, in fact, confirmed crimes, people reported and criminal seizures, as well as administrative offenses, increased.

This is what Legambiente denounced, which on the occasion of the launch of the annual campaigns “Goletta Verde” and “Goletta dei Laghi”, previewed the data of the dossier “Mare Monstrum 2024”, dedicated to the illegal cement cycle. A plague that is difficult to combat especially along the coasts, where illegal building, subject to demolition orders, is 6 times more widespread than inland, especially in Campania, where from 2004 to 2022 one case was opened for every 236.6 inhabitants.

To turn the spotlight on this age-old problem of building abuse will once again be “Goletta Verde”, in its 38th edition, and “Goletta dei Laghi”, in its 19th year. The campaign to monitor the state of health of the seas, promoted by Legambiente, will also set sail in Campania, on 12 July in Procida and on the 15th in Cilento, in Acciaroli: an opportunity to propose and promote virtuous policies and experiences against the climate crisis and protection of marine ecosystems.
