REGGIO CALABRIA The mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà, together with the councilor Carmelo Romeo and the municipal councilor delegated for Sport, Giovanni Latella, spoke at the third edition of the “Stefano Viola” Award, at the Foyer of the “Francesco Cilea” Theater, together with the regional presidents of Aiac, Girolamo Mesiti and Giuseppe Pasquale Sorgonà. On this occasion, Davide Possanzini, unforgettable player of Reggina and now coach of Mantova, newly promoted to Serie B, held a technical lesson on “Principles of play, through play”.
In promoting the AIAC’s initiatives, the mayor could not help but focus on the presence of Possanzini, precisely on the 25th anniversary of Reggina’s first promotion to Serie A which saw the striker as the protagonist of a formidable season for the amaranth team. «He is one of the heroes of that time», said Falcomatà, recalling the team that «led us to that first, historic and unforgettable Serie A». «That – he added – was an achievement for the entire city not only from a sporting point of view. From there, in fact, a Reggio spring began which, through sport, allowed the area to relaunch on a social, economic and image level and to be recognized outside local and national borders”.

«After some time – said the mayor – we must pay homage to those who allowed us unexpected growth and a Serie A to which, perhaps, we had all become accustomed. Today we regret those years. Possanzini’s presence, therefore, serves to remind us of who we have been and who we can become again. It is, in some way, a push. It is an honor to have him here and for this I thank AIAC and the presidents Sorgonà and Mesiti.”
