It’s already a record number of subscribers for the Run for the Whales scheduled for tomorrow in Sanremo. The formula has been confirmed which includes three different races: half marathon (Fidal), 10 km non-competitive and Family Run (about 3 km).

He will also be there at the start Giulia Sommi, Italian marathon champion in 2022 and bronze medal in 2024. The athlete from Vigevano, bearer of the CUS Pro Patria Milano, will in fact run the half marathon with bib number 1. Her sporting palmares is important, enriched by the victory of the Italian title in the marathon, won a year and a half ago (November 2022) in Ravenna. Her technical level is also demonstrated by her personal bests: marathon 2h35’05” – half marathon 1h15’22” – 10km 33’54”. At the start of the 10 km there will be the Genoese Paola Noli, winner of the Sanremo Marathon 2023.

Before registration opens on site, the Run for the Whales 2024 has already broken every record, exceeding the number of participants in past editions. To date, almost 600 athletes have registered: 341 for the half marathon, 208 for the 10 km and 46 for the family run. Once the online phase has been completed, it will still be possible to register for one of the three races through the dedicated desk which will be set up at the Pian di Poma athletics field at the following times:
– today from 2.30pm to 6pm;
– tomorrow (only for the 10km and the family run) from 10am to 1pm.

There Half Marathon it will start from San Lorenzo al Mare and will affect the cycle path in a westerly direction up to the finish line at the Sanremo athletics field. Along the route, runners will cross a series of municipalities (San Lorenzo al Mare, Costarainera, Cipressa, Santo Stefano al Mare, Riva Ligure and Taggia) along the sea on a very fast route that develops in a straight line with almost no difference in altitude. In Arma di Taggia the participants will also travel a short urban stretch. The 10 km will instead start at the athletics field, immediately heading east, along the cycle path, almost to the beginning of Tre Ponti where there will be the halfway point for the return. The Family Run will affect the stretch of the Sanremo seafront. The races are handled from a technical point of view by the Asd Pro San Pietro.

There half marathon will start at 7pm from San Lorenzo al Mare. At the same time, but from the Pian di Poma athletics field, the start of the 10 km is scheduled, after which the family run will also take place. The awards ceremony will be held in the finish area at 9pm.

After the successes of the last editions, the Social Reality of the Sanremo Marathon also landed at the Run for the Whales. The format allowed four athletes to be followed for two months, until the day of the race, by a staff made up of: a technician (Roberto Giacopelli), a nutritionist (Matteo Rondelli from Stefano Beschi’s staff) and a mental coach (Cesare Zanotto).

Here are the protagonists:
– Alessandro Pizzi – 44 years old from Milan – competing in the half marathon
– Magda Sabbatino – 23 years old from Nice – competing in the half marathon
– Chiara Fossati – 34 years of Sanremo – competing in the 10 km
– Barbara Ribolla – 42 years old from Paratico (Brescia) – competing in the 10 km

Their approach to the race was experienced online, through the publication of photos and videos on the Run for the Whales social networks: Facebook (@runforthewhales) and Instagram (sanremo.marathon).

In the tomorrow morning the first will take place Plogging Challenge of the Run for the Whales organized by the Sanremo Marathon Committee in collaboration with the I Deplasticati association and also the intervention of some volunteers from the BioDesign FoundaIon. This event is part of the “Sportspeople for Nature in the Riviera” project, the project that won the tender promoted by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, which aims to combine the importance of environmental protection with the benefits of sporting activity. The Plogging Challenge will start at 9.30 am, end at 12 pm and will take place along the areas of Pian di Poma adjacent to the start of the Run for the Whales. The activity is open to adults and children. The meeting is at 9 am at the Pian di Poma athletics track in Sanremo.

The arrival area will be brightened by a live music concertedited by the group “Lost in Blues”, who will perform in Piand di Poma starting around 9.30pm. Free admission.
