Standing ovation. Definitely unusual opening of the works of the municipal parliament: everyone standing and thunderous applause for Antonella Sberna, “crowned” by the MEP last Monday. Words of appreciation for her way of working and her determination at an administrative level were expressed by the majority and opposition group leaders, with best wishes for good work in Europe. Floral tribute then from the colleagues of Fratelli d’Italia.
The mayor Chiara Frontini, sending best wishes «as mayor of the city but also from Chiara to Antonella» defined the election of a local candidate to the European Parliament «a beautiful moment for the city of Viterbo because new opportunities, new horizons are opening up» .
The new MEP, underlining the importance, not only political but also administrative, that Europe assumes in this particular historical moment, reassured: «Although the meeting is very complicated, it will be my task to provide answers. Proud to have brought Tuscia to Europe.”
After the joyful interlude, a sudden reminder of the reality of the city with a series of urgent questions.
Starting with the series of “episodes”, published by a web newspaper, which concern the mayor’s utterances extrapolated from the recording during the poisonous dinner in the house of councilor Bruzziches.
With the PD group leader Alvaro Ricci who, in the face of the latest “episode” on nursery schools, asked the first citizen to make the recording public «so that citizens can contextualize the sentences reported and also the councilors can understand what happened and draw conclusions.” Stigmatizing the climate of uncertainty generated by the “soap opera”, he added: «We would also like to understand the reasons that led Bruzziches to record the private dinner».
«I will take your suggestion into account» declared Frontini addressing Ricci, and then apologizing for the foul language in his utterances but also for «the low debate that the city must undergo. I have no intention of being dragged into a debate of this level with which someone seems to want to hold the city hostage.”
Noting that he had explained his reasons to the Prosecutor’s Office, councilor Bruzziches declared himself available on the disclosure of the recording after consulting with his lawyer.
Staying on the subject of nursery schools, the dem councilor Alessandra Troncarelli asked for clarification on the risk of closure of the I Cuppi facility.
«I don’t understand the rumors about the possible closure – replied the councilor for social services Patrizia Notaristefano – We were unable to advertise the places because a series of requests came out from the operators of the structure. There will be 15 children who, having started the course, will continue to attend nursery school.”
He then concluded his speech by reiterating: «No closure. We cannot put out the call for new entries for children until we have certainty about the number of operators.”
And with 19 favorable votes from the majority, the “practice”, which had resulted in a complaint due to lack of a quorum, of the recognition of the budget debt of 1222 euros, was concluded.
