Music Festival, the Gallarate European Youth Philharmonic Orchestra at Malpensa

MALPENSA – The music and air travel they cross borders and they unite cultures: this is the spirit with which, this year too, Enac adheres to the International Music Festival 2024 and consolidates the link between the world of music and air travel, in synergistic collaboration with trade associations Assaeroporti and Airports 2030 and with airport managers. With the theme “We are the first orchestra”, The June 21st numerous Italian airports will be the stage for initiatives and musical performances aimed at both passengers and the large community of workers in the sector. Sea also takes part in the event and Malpensa will be transformed into the stage of the Gallarate European Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.

The orchestra

L’Gallarate European Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is a project that started in 2012 and which over the years has involved an increasingly large number of students aged 10 to 25 who, under the guidance of the maestro Marcello Pennuto, they find themselves playing together. On June 21st they met at Malpensa terminal 1, on an exceptional stage that Sea, Milan Airports, will prepare for Food Court mezzanine of the check-in lounge. Here around forty young people aged 14 to 20 (together with senior musicians) will hold theirs one hour concert.

The concert

The choice from the vast repertoire is to propose classical but well-known and famous pieces of music, perfect for a heterogeneous audience like that of Malpensa. You will go from Vivaldi, Bach, Pergolesi, Stamitz, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart with ensembles from chamber to symphonic and with numerous pieces in the concert for soloist and orchestra. With over dozens of concerts under its belt throughout the province, the orchestra expects students in rehearsals and concerts to be supported by musicians mostly belonging to the “senior” orchestra so that they can guide them in the preparation of the pieces based on of their long orchestral experience. On this occasion the teacher will be there Luca Frizzele of the Milan Conservatory, clarinet soloist. The young students come from various musical institutions in the Province of Varese and throughout Lombardy and Piedmont, such as the Conservatories of Milan, Como and Novara. From the beginning, space was given to the solo repertoire with orchestra, also to reward the merit of particularly prepared young people.
