At the European Athletics Championships Philip Tortu he has just contributed to writing another page in the history of this sport. On his twenty-sixth birthday, a few days after the triumph in the 4 × 100 relay and the silver won in the 200 meters, the Sassari Popular Sports Library celebrates the Italian sprinter with a small exhibition of relics, photos and memorabilia.

There are various models of his training shoes, the national team tank top, the tracksuits, the first shirts used in competitions in the youth teams of Riccardi Milano. But there will also be some unpublished photos and a shirt belonging to the Sassari Olympian Tonino Siddi. The material comes from the private collection of Andrea Sini, director of the library, and from some donations made to the same library by the Tokyo Olympic champion. The exhibition, created in collaboration with Character by Antonello Fadda, will be inaugurated Saturday 15 June at 11am in via Turritana 76/B and can be visited for free until the end of the month during the library’s opening hours.

“Filippo Tortu is a legend of Italian sport and is also a friend of our library – say the members of the association’s board Torresina Historical Memory, who founded and manages the library -. He has been promising to come and visit us for some time and we hope to be able to have him with us for a public meeting after the Olympics. In the meantime we thought we’d show off some small pieces of history, at the same time remembering our fellow citizen Tonino Siddi, another legend of the Italian sprint, who over seventy years ago won European silver and Olympic bronze in the 4×100″.
