Arezzo Nurses’ Day celebrated in the best way

“This is our May 12th, it is Nurses’ Day in Arezzo celebrated in the best way: at the service of the community, of professional growth, of public health”. Thus the President of the Order of Nursing Professions comments with great satisfaction on the initiative which took place in the Auditorium of the San Donato Hospital in which the Rotary Clubs of the Etruria area donated 15 tablets, 15 circular LEDs and a multiparametric monitor at the South East Tuscany Local Health Authority. The donation was also an opportunity to take stock of the situation on teleassistance and, more generally, on territorial nursing care. The first speech was that of the Regional Councilor Simone Bezzini who underlined how “Telecare is a decisive challenge for social and healthcare assistance. Today we have a problem of balance and sustainability, and therefore of resources, but we would be wrong if we put first priority only the search for resources which are increasingly scarce. Innovation is and must be one of the cornerstones of the system, so that professionals in the area can guarantee proximity, but with ever more space for technology for all those citizens who need monitoring, control and all those services which can be administered without the physical presence of a professional. In this way we will be able to guarantee equal opportunities for health services in the area.” The General Director of the ASL Antonio D’Urso underlined that “Land management is the main theme of this company, a thought that must pervade the entire health policy. Our commitment is to guarantee services and performances also to peripheral areas, and in this teleassistance is an indispensable tool. It is undeniable that nursing care in a territorial context that goes from Giglio Island to Sestino is more difficult than elsewhere. We are therefore naturally driven to find alternative solutions and to innovate. Finally, a word to new nurses: don’t lose your enthusiasm, don’t become care bureaucrats. Enthusiasm is the driving force behind doing a difficult but wonderful job”, concluded Director D’Urso. The Prefect of Arezzo Maddalena De Luca, after having focused on the importance of the new frontiers of medicine and the ability to reach anyone in the area, used a very beautiful definition to define the role and task of the nurse: “the doctor cures, the nurse heals”, he stated, triggering a great applause from an audience also made up of students of the nursing degree course accompanied by their coordinator Massimo Spighi who took the floor to greet, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Arezzo Lucia Tanti . The Local Health Authority was present at the work with all its top managers, and the Administrative Director Antonella Valeri expressed “Special thanks for the silent work of those who are in the hospital and in the area every day to provide a service that is not only professional and one to the Rotary clubs for such an important donation.” Health Director Assunta De Luca said that “Nurses are a very important link in care, they are a special figure who has a complementary role to the doctor, with specific skills and continuous, close contact with patients and family members. My best wishes for a good job go to those who are starting their professional career this morning.” After many thanks, it was the District Secretary of Rotary Alberto Papini, on behalf of all the Presidents, who took the floor, stating that Services of this type are in the spirit of the activity of the Rotarian family, active throughout the world precisely to intervene to support the needs of the communities in which they operate. Then there was the delivery ceremony of the devices, with a subsequent practical demonstration of their use coordinated by the Director of the ASL nursing department Vianella Agostinelli and implemented by colleagues Eleonora Salutini and Sara Sandroni. After the various reports planned as part of the morning discussion and the intervention of the President of the regional health commission Enrico Sostegni, the President of the Region Eugenio Giani reached the auditorium and delivered, together with the President Opi Giovanni Grasso, the parchment of welcome to the new nurses who also recited the oath of Florence Nightingale, mother of the figure of the modern nurse. President Giani underlined how the day “was born from a beautiful initiative of the Rotary clubs in the Etruria area and establishes the dialogue between the healthcare structure, the institution and social volunteering. Initiatives like this are important because they contribute to strengthening the health and social system thanks to the third sector. The donation is also an opportunity to draw attention to one of the biggest challenges in healthcare: teleassistance.” The president also placed emphasis on the figure of the nursing profession which – he recalled – “is experiencing a great evolution and its role in the territory is increasingly fundamental”.
