For the European Archeology Days 2024 at the Stazioncina di Canne della Battaglia: for “proximity tourism” in the rediscovery of places of environmental, historical and cultural importance a few kilometers from Ofanto and the nearest inhabited centers in the province (Barletta, Canosa di Puglia, Margherita di Savoia, Trinitapoli and San Ferdinando di Puglia) the announcement-proposal comes in these days before – and in the wake of the Regional Museums Directorate of Puglia – from the Italian Committee Pro Canne della Battaglia ODV, operating among Cultural Heritage and Tourism since 1953 (more than seventy years since its foundation) and today structured as a Third Sector Organization regularly registered in the Single National Register (RUNTS) pursuant to current legislation.

Entrance at the ordinary cost and event included in the price. The Antiquarium and archaeological park of Canne della Battaglia opens the deposits: conceived and designed not only as places dedicated to the conservation of the archaeological heritage, unknown to non-experts, but also as spaces dedicated to knowledge and sharing, the deposits will be open to the public with a view to participatory use. Once they enter the basement (which will be accessible on Saturday and Sunday from 4.00pm to 6.00pm) visitors will find themselves faced with experimentation places where content is constructed and data is processed.

Furthermore, again on Saturday and Sunday, two guided tours will be organized at the same site (11.00 am and 4.00 pm) of the exhibition in the Antiquarium.

The Committee, which has managed the Stazioncina building and the surrounding areas of relevance since 2002 by agreement with the Ferrovie Italiane Group, with its volunteers will welcome visitors and tourists as the only railway “gate” located in all of Italy serving an archaeological site of world famous on the historic Barletta-Spinazzola line (still closed to traffic due to major works in progress) and therefore reachable from ordinary roads (provincial roads 19 and 21) in the renovated and welcoming picnic areas with guarded car parking where it will also be upgraded separate waste collection in addition to the permanent ecological island installed here.

In recent months the whole area has benefited from the work carried out in agreement between the Municipality (Social Services Sector) and the Employment Center for PUC (Projects useful to the community) until the conclusion of the measures envisaged by the Citizenship Income with the use of the recipients/beneficiaries thus employed with the aim of improving reception. Projects that will resume next April thanks to the remodulation of government funds planned and managed in the Territory.

BarSA Spa also contributed by making available the material for the small cabinet making with the wood used in the improvement of the fences and signs for tourist purposes, as well as the more rational division of the areas where it will be possible to stop, eat packed meals and spend hours in absolute, quiet and protected relaxation.

The proximity of the Station will allow an easy free visit from the outside to the Baths of San Mercurio (from the imperial Roman era) and the historic medieval Fountain of San Ruggiero (12th century), as well as the archaeological park and the Antiquarium with the methods provided by that direction.
