06/13/2024 – Off to the Pesaro International New Cinema Exhibition whose 60th edition falls in the year of Pesaro Capital of Culture. From tomorrow to Saturday 22 June many guests such as Sergio Castellitto, Jasmine Trinca, Valentina Lodovini, Enzo D’Alò, Ficarra and Picone, Franco Maresco and the Pesaro 60 Special Prize which will be for Luca Guadagnino.

The Festival directed by Pedro Armocida this year offers an extra day by bringing forward the start of the event to Friday 14 June where in the large arena of Piazza del Popolo, the exhibition will be inaugurated with Sergio Castellitto, a tribute on the twentieth anniversary of one of his films most successful “Don’t move” first appointment of the Cinema in Piazza section, possible thanks to CSC – Cineteca Nazionale, Cattleya and Medusa.

“We have worked in harmony with Pesaro, the Italian capital of culture, through joint events such as those dedicated to Sarajevo and Korea – explains Armocida – this synthesis has meant that the exhibition is even stronger because in the cinema in the square part they will see many popular protagonists starting for example with Sergio Castellitto and ending with Luca Guadagnino”.

Among the many contents of the program also the international competition in search of new cinema, the Virtual Reality project and space for art in images by Brigid McCaffrey and Arcangelo Mazzoleni and also the tributes in the Square to Four Weddings and a Funeral and Forrest Gump; on the beach to Marcello Mastroianni and Walter Chiari and at the Sperimentale to Adriano Aprà and the jurors Júlio Bressane, Myriam Mézières and Luis Miñarro. Again the Circus for the little ones and the music with the Wall of Sound, the concert in the square dedicated to Henry Mancini, the Vedomusica contest and the focus on Enea Colombi.

The special event on Italian cinema continues, after the previous editions with Liliana Cavani, Mario Martone and Giuseppe Tornatore, with a double moment: one dedicated to Ficarra and Picone, present in the Piazza on Sunday 16 June to meet the public and present “The summer time”, and one to Franco Maresco.

During the press conference to present the exhibition there was also the speech of the new mayor of Pesaro Andrea Biancani who underlined how a historical and important event like this “can and must contribute to filling the empty hotel rooms in a period that is not yet completely occupied from seaside tourism and therefore we will work in this sense for an event that still attracts its public”.

The presentation of the interventions, sponsors and collaborations was made by Christian Della Chiara, organizational director of the Festival, while the president of the Pesaro Nuovo Cinema Foundation onlus and outgoing councilor for culture (but awaiting reconfirmation as confirmed by the new mayor) Daniele Vimini reiterated how it is a “Festival increasingly linked and tailored to the city, an event that has strengthened from the point of view of economic balance and then with the many city places involved in the screenings and meetings”.

From Monday 17 June the Festival will get to the heart of the show with the international competition which, always devoted to the search for ‘new’ cinema, is open to all formats and all directors, without barriers of age, duration or format.
