Sometimes, we happen to be doubtful about how to behave, even when it comes to nutrition: is it correct to offer food to strays? What risks could there be?
It is always appropriate to remember the importance of small gestures that can prove useful for the survival of these animals, avoiding turning them into a danger to the community. And in this sense it is important to rely on the advice of experts, in order to contribute without making mistakes.
The food collection for strays and cat colonies is a possible contribution, which turns out to be an act of primary importance, to feed these animals correctly, avoiding feeding them with waste, referred to as “wrong foods”.
Furthermore, to proceed and provide aid it is necessary that dogs and cats are registered at the ASL, captured and sterilized, to allow their subsequent release into the territory.
The food accumulated for the cat colonies and for strays is placed in the so-called “food points”, located outside the town, to avoid the arrival of the animals in the town. Correct nutrition includes kibble and wet food, specifically indicated and distinguished between dogs and cats, since only they contain the nutrients they need.
These guidelines are provided by ENPA (national body for animal protection), which in Bisceglie in collaboration with Joe Zampetti, organizes, every month, the food collection for cat colonies and strays which includes the donation of unsold or expired food destined and divided between Enpa and Nobody’s Children.
These donations, however, are not enough to help the animals for a long period, and therefore the appeal is addressed to animal-loving citizens, reminding them of the importance of contributing to these food collection events and providing small aid and adopting behaviors adequate, for the support of small animal communities.
