It is a real shame (or rather in Italy there is nothing surprising anymore) if in-depth TV programs and journalistic denunciations (Rai Report), Striscia la Notizia (by Mediaset) have not dealt with the 9 years of waiting to build a prison in the province of Savona and its surprising background.
The ‘historic Italian affair’, in the Bel Paese where half of the voters (26 million) no longer go to the polls, had ended up under scrutiny by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Auditors of Liguria and now we are at the final requests awaiting the verdict. The accounting magistrates are asking for damages of 5 million € a 18 ‘blamed’, among them a former mayor of Savona (Carlo Ruggeri) and a ‘master father’ already at the municipal technical office of Palazzo Sisto (Ennio Rossi), former councilor of Vado Ligure (see Trucioli.it….).
We do not know the documents of the investigation and the final request of the accounting magistrates. And whether the sums requested for damages remain as such. In Italy, suspects and defendants almost always declare themselves innocent. This is also likely to be the case for the 18 municipal administrators and public officials called into question. A bitter consideration remains, the lack of mobilization of civil society and finally the silence of the Ligurian parliamentarians. For the Province of Savona he remained the Northern League deputy, a former senator Francesco Bruzzone, newly promoted-elected to the European Parliament. Staunch defender of hunters with residence in Stella, the town of Pertini. Bruzzone he was president of the Regional Council of Liguria. In short, isn’t a prison a priority problem for a civil society, for justice, for prisoners and their families? Isn’t this a problem that also has negative repercussions on other Ligurian penitentiaries? The old Sant’Agostino had a capacity of up to 70-80 places in the cells. Among other things, the prisons of Imperia and Sanremo suffer the greatest consequences, with the latter often in the news due to suicides, riots, clashes and injuries even among prison police officers. The new Savona prison can wait for the next article-announcement.
