The Coldiretti Calabria demonstration began a few minutes ago and is taking place at the headquarters of the Calabria Region on Strada Statale 107 Vaglio Lise – Cosenza. The first hundred tractors have arrived and around three hundred are expected. The first buses and delegations from all over the region are also arriving. Four thousand people are expected – informs Coldiretti – as well as mayors and various institutional representatives who have shared Coldiretti’s reasons.
The uncontrolled invasion of wild boars is a problem for cities and agriculture.
Clear and immediate answers are needed.
The numbers are worrying: 2.3 million animals roam freely causing road accidents with deaths and injuries and millions of damages to farms.
This is why the mobilization of Coldiretti farmers is starting throughout Italy.
The President of Coldiretti Calabria, Franco Aceto, declares:
In the last year, wild boars have caused around five million euros worth of damage to Calabrian agriculture, devastating fields of wheat, potatoes, corn, vegetables and even vineyards and orchards. The damage caused by wild animals is not reimbursed except in a minimal part and often after many years, with a situation that has led many to give up reporting the attacks they have suffered. Among other things, the few compensations that do arrive never cover the real value of the destroyed product or the killed animal.
