On the morning of April 23rd, in Piazza Unione Europea, staff of the State Police has noted the existence on War Memorial of writings made with metallic gold spray paint. The fouling had been operated on walls on both sides of the stairs and on the wall behind the statue depicting i Fallen, as well as on the wall next to the staircase, marking the word “BIGBOOS” preceded by some writings in Arabic.
The activity, conducted immediately by the DIGOS of the Police Headquarters Messina, also with the help of Municipal policeaimed at analyzing the images of the surveillance cameras placed near the buildings pertaining to the defaced monument, made it possible to reconstruct that the writings, made on the night between 13 and 14 April past, were probably attributable to a young with somatic features similar to ethnic groups North Africansa face already known to the staff of Police operating. Already from the images examined, the police were able to notice how the author of the writings was holding an object such as a spray can in his hand.
The specific services, carried out especially in the historic center, made it possible to identify a nineteen-year-old of Egyptian nationality, corresponding in physical characteristics to the subject filmed by the cameras on occasion of the contamination: in particular, in addition to the appearance physiognomics, an important detail emerged, namely that the aforementioned appeared to be wearing a black pouch the same as the one worn by theauthor of the defilement.
Furthermore, from platform monitoring Instagram used by the young man, further evidence was found regarding the criminal conduct of the identified young man.
The nineteen-year-old was checked several times by police officers Messina as he usually frequents places where there has been drug dealing activity narcotic substanceswas therefore referred by DIGOS to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Messina for the crime of damage to the national archaeological, historical or artistic heritagein competition with other co-conspirators whose identity is still being ascertained.
The above, for the purposes of exercising the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of the press and in respect of the rights of the suspect who, in consideration of the current phase of the preliminary investigations, is to be presumed innocent until the irrevocable sentence which ascertains his responsibilities and with the clarification that the trial, which will take place in cross-examination with the parties and the defenses before a third and impartial judge, may also conclude with proof of the absence of any form of responsibility on the part of the suspect.
