According to the politician, the attacker was a Wahhabi jihadist. He also stated that several other people were arrested as a precaution near the police facilities.

Attack in Belgrade: what happened

The injured person is a Serbian police officer guarding the Israeli diplomatic headquarters, who, although hit in the neck by the bolt fired from the crossbow, managed to shoot and kill the attacker, the Ministry of the Interior in Belgrade said.

Around 11 a.m., “an unknown person shot a member of the security forces, who was providing security to the Israeli embassy, ​​with a crossbow, injuring him in the neck,” the ministry wrote.

The agent underwent surgery to remove the dart and is now in intensive care, in conditions described as “very serious”. The Minister of the Interior, Ivica Dacic, who immediately classified the episode as Wahhabi jihadist terrorism – Wahhabism is a fundamentalist branch of Sunni Islam from which both Al Qaeda and Isis arose -, said that investigations underway. In Belgrade, Dacic said, security measures have been strengthened.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that “no employees were injured” in the terrorist attack on the mission in Belgrade. “The embassy is closed,” the ministry spokesman said, adding that “one local police officer was injured and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.”

It was a 25-year-old young man, Milos Zujovic, with the religious name of Salahudin, who carried out today’s terrorist attack in front of the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said this, adding that he is a convert to Islamic extremism originally from Mladenovac, a town south of Belgrade. The young man, added Dacic, lived in Novi Pazar, the city in the south-west of Serbia, the capital of Sanjaccaro, a region with a majority Muslim population. The minister said that checks and searches are underway in various places to shed light on the man’s contacts.
