“1984” tells of a group of historians who, in 2050, discover the diary of comrade n° 6709, Winston Smith, written in 1984, the year in which the world is divided into three superstates at war with each other: Oceania, Eurasia and Ecstasy. Oceania is governed by Big Brother, who sees all and knows all. His eyes are the cameras that continually spy into homes, his arm is the Thought Police that intervenes at the slightest suspicion. Everything is allowed, there is no written law. Nothing, apparently, is off limits. Except thinking. Except love. Except having fun. In short: except living, if not according to the dictates of Big Brother. War is permanent, no matter what enemy, and telescreens, along with video cameras, control everyone. Winston, who has purchased a clandestine diary, is ready to put his survival at risk when he falls in love with Julia, in a world where love is forbidden. The couple’s free thinking, their awareness of the truth of their time and the desire to preserve a grain of humanity will bring them to the brink of the abyss.
Coordinated by the native English speaker prof. Andrew Sheldon, the students of the Cambridge Drama Course tried to understand and respect the critical thinking of the English essayist, creating a production entirely in English. Federica Guarino and Samuele Marzella were awarded the first prize, respectively, as best actress and best actor, but the whole group achieved first place among the theatrical performances staged for the occasion. In fact, the students Angelica Curci, Myriam Tempesta, Antonella Stufano, Erica Consiglio, Sara Capotorti, Alessandro Valente, Viviana Salvemini, Maria Giovanna Mastropierro, Bryanna Pescetti, Gabriele D’Ambrosio, Giorgia De Bari, Anna Favuzzi, Ilaria Abbattista, Rossella Piacentino, Vittoria Modugno, Calvani Marialuisa, Angelica Piccinnini, Annachiara De Bari, Marco Cuocci, Helsa Chiara Cardella, Andrea Lozito, Antonio Oscuro, Giulia Tempesta, masterfully represented the theatrical adaptations of the two British screenwriters, winning the highest podium in the world championship on 9 participating school groups, receiving the appreciation of the judging commission for the performance performed, to which were added the congratulations of the Headmaster, Prof. Giuseppina Bassi and of the entire community of the “Einstein da Vinci” high schools of Molfetta.
