The Provincial ANPI of Terni, to commemorate the centenary of the death of Giacomo Matteotti, is organizing the presentation of the book on Monday 17 June at 5.30 pm in the conference room of the Casa delle Donne, in via Aminale 22: “Giacomo Matteotti – The best Italy” by Federico Fornaro.

The author, the Hon. Federico Fornaro will be interviewed by journalist Roberto Vicaretti of Rainews24.

The interview will be preceded by a presentation by the deputy vice president of the Provincial ANPI of Terni Nicoletta Filipponi.

In the book, the biography of the socialist parliamentarian and leader acts as a common thread to the reconstruction of the historical passages that led to Mussolini’s conquest of power and the consolidation of the fascist regime. Matteotti’s political experience is fully placed in the phase of the birth and affirmation of the Italian socialist movement, promptly giving an account of its transformations and its travails. The final part of the book focuses on the role that the figure of Matteotti had in political culture of post-war Italy, to the significant weight that Matteotti’s example retained in keeping the spirit of the anti-fascist resistance alive, until the recent recovery of the meaning and value of his political thought.

The author, Federico Fornaro, essayist and politician, was president of the “Carlo Ghiraldenghi” Institute for the history of the Resistance and contemporary society. Before this book, his last editorial works were “2 June 1946. History of a referendum” (2021) and “The collapse of a democracy. Mussolini’s rise to power 1919 – 1922” (2022) . He was a Senator of the Republic and is currently a member of the Chamber of Deputies.
