The Tomeo Prize children’s theater conquers school audiences

ROVIGO – New wave of wonder with the repeat of the winning shows of the Tomeo Award 2024, the Polesine children’s theater Oscar, al Rovigo Cathedral Theatre for school audiences.

Two events well attended by over 500 children, equal to 25 classes including school groups accompanied by their teachers from primary to secondary schools in Rovigo and its province. “For us, the diffusion of theater as a children’s activity that can be shared with everyone is very important – he states Irene Lissandrin, creator and organizer of the Tomeo Prize – for this reason in the 2024 edition we introduced the novelty of repeats of the winning shows for school audiences, a successful experiment”.

The very powerful warning of “Not even this piece will save the world” of Iis Primo Levi Theater group of Badia Polesine, winner of the Tomeo award for best show for ages 14-19 and best direction, it made its way into the consciences of those present. “There is no forgiveness, there is no redemption, there is no answer, there is only this. There is only this time that is fading before our eyes. This time is over. Now there is extinction. You become extinct and you don’t realize it” recites Hiba Taouil, one of the protagonist actresses who acts as narrator. The performance is taken from a text by German author Thomas Kock, reworked by Georg Sobbe, director and teacher of the theater group, and talks about how man is destined for extinction since he has exceeded the limit of no return. A collective denunciation that transmits a very strong message, namely that of man’s evil and dangerous behavior towards the environment and animals.

The boys present from Primo Levi of Badia and Itis Viola-Marchesini of Rovigo were shocked, as well as representatives of the social and voluntary world, who repeatedly applauded the skill of these young actors and their teacher-director. Among the associations is the environmentalist Our Italywith the president Fabio Bellettato, who congratulated the Tomeo Prize for promoting environmental shows.

Absolute festive atmosphere two days later, theater sold out until the last seat, on 5 June again at 11am, with a repeat performance of Sister Act, the Venezze middle school musical by Ic Rovigo 2, the most awarded show of Tomeo 2024: best show for ages 11-14; best sound project; best scenography and costumes; Audience Award and Young Talent.

Harmony and ability to captivate the audience is one of the hallmarks of the show. Staged with recorded music, in the original version it is with the orchestra of the Venezze Young Wind Band and friends, the admirable team of over 60 young people, including actors, choristers, dancers, set designers, and stage workers, directed by Valentina Zordan and Giulia Zen, has bewitched children, teenagers and teachers. Now iconic are the acrobatic hip hop numbers, Boogie woogie dances and even the fun Full Monty style police striptease, as well as the nuns’ choirs, faithful to the original, which explode in the final gospel song “I will follow Him”.

The final goodbye is at the next edition of the Tomeo Prize 2025.
