Various themes are at the center of the discussion in the Region of the Order of Psychologists of Umbria, including the general one of psychological well-being and the institution of the basic psychologist. The president of the Order of Psychologists of Umbria David Lazzari, the vice president Antonella Micheletti and the president of the Region Donatella Tesei spoke about it.
The discussion, which covered various topics related to the psychological well-being of the population, also touched on the data relating to widespread forms of discomfort. Umbria, it was recalled, is at the top for consumption of psychotropic drugs. For example, from 2004 to 2019 it went from 8 million to 18 million daily doses per year. In antidepressants the region is in third place, with 8.5% prevalence of use against a national average of 6.7%.
According to a survey by the Piepoli Institute, one Umbrian in three (32%) claims to suffer from anxiety, depression or other forms of psychological distress, a percentage that rises to 41% among young people (18-24). Numbers that have revealed a significant increase in the search for and use of psychological help. Around 130,000 Umbrians declared that they had resorted to private help, but there are many who do not have the economic resources to use this channel.
A problem that concerns young people but also many elderly people, considering that Umbria has one of the highest rates of elderly population. On this basis, the Order underlines, President Tesei expressed the commitment of the Regional Council to adequately support the bill on the institution of the basic psychologist, which is under the attention of the Legislative Assembly, with the aim of achieving for quick approval.
There is also the commitment of the Council to implement forms of coordination of psychological activities in health authorities, to optimize the work of psychological professionals in order to improve the organization of typically transversal activities and the overall response provided to citizens in terms of needs psychological.
