The soldiers of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Turin arrested an Italian citizen of Chilean origin who was carrying kg. 12.55 of marijuana-type narcotic substance. The woman was traveling on an international bus coming from Barcelona and heading to Milan, with an expected stopover in the Piedmontese capital.
Waiting for the travelers were the “Green Basques” of the Emergency Employment Group of the Guardia di Finanza of Turin together with a canine unit of the Corps, engaged in checks of the main transit nodes to prevent and combat illicit trafficking. During the check on the bus passengers and luggage, the drug-sniffing dog Maya persistently flagged the woman’s suitcases. Inside, the Financiers found over 12 and a half kilos of marijuana, with an estimated value – if sold at retail – of approximately 163,000 euros.
The owner of the luggage, found to have no specific precedents, was arrested by the military and taken to the “Lorusso e Cutugno” prison in Turin, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, before which she will have to answer – without prejudice to the presumption of innocence until the intervention of a definitive conviction – of the criminal hypothesis of international trafficking of narcotic substances.
The interventions carried out by the Turin Financial Police at bus terminals, railway and underground stations are part of the constant control action aimed at combating illicit trafficking and are often also the result of reports received from citizens on the number public utility “117”. This activity has made it possible, since the beginning of the current year, to identify ten perpetrators in the act of drug dealing and arrest them, to report eleven others at liberty to the local Public Prosecutor’s Office and to report no. to the competent Prefectures. 186 subjects. Among hashish, marijuana and cocaine, the “Green Basques” of the Turin Financial Police have so far found and seized over 20 kilograms of narcotics.
