The summer part of the municipal swimming pool of Lugo, managed by the Sport Ravenna company, reopened its doors a few days ago. A start to the season that could have been better, given the weather conditions that did not spare clouds and temperatures that were sometimes still far from seasonal averages. “We should have opened as early as May 27th – explains director Fabio Cornacchia – but we postponed it by a week due to bad weather. The outcome of the first weekend was in line with what we expected, given the forecasts that everyone now consults”. While waiting for the restyling project anticipated during the electoral campaign by the new mayor Elena Zannoni, the municipal swimming pool will continue to offer open spaces and scheduled events during the summer. “Until August 22nd we will have live music concerts organized every Thursday in the space near the veranda of the structure’s restaurant, Zia Pop – he continues –. In total there are 12 shows. From June 20th then, in conjunction with the live shows, we are evaluating to keep the facility open until 10pm, therefore an hour and a half longer than normal hours”. In fact, the outdoor part of the swimming pool is open between 9am and 8.30pm from Monday to Friday and from 9am to 7.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, the covered 4-lane pool remains available and can be used during the week on certain days and times.
“The management of Sport Ravenna will end on 31 August next year – specifies Cornacchia –. In any case, the issue of renewing the facility is real. I confirm that it is a dated structure from the point of view of energy efficiency and We obviously try to overcome the problems that may arise, but a more important intervention is needed not by the management but by the owners, so the new mayor has not hidden the situation, on the contrary she has shown a willingness to look into it further The plant is in a good position and is not only used by the people of Lugo but by residents of all the surrounding municipalities.”
The birth of the municipal swimming pool dates back to 1972. It was the then mayor Adriano Guerrini who wanted it. Today it is the most used plant within the Union of Municipalities of Lower Romagna but it is also the most suffering from a structural point of view. Over time the administration has invested many resources in an attempt to renovate the structure, moving the bar for example, and subjecting individual areas to renovation. Now, however, it seems the time has come to proceed with a drastic intervention which does not also exclude the possibility of its demolition and the reconstruction of a completely new swimming pool.
