ANCONA- Two large screens, one facing the statue of Clement XII, the other towards the square. A month of screenings, meetings with actors and directors, presentations. Here is the cinema arena in Piazza del Papa, for the month of August. The project is taking shape and the Municipality is one step away from the official announcement. The supporters: Giometti and Smeriglio, unity is strength between the two families of entrepreneurs in the sector who, in the city, respectively manage the UCI Cinema at Baraccola and the Movieland Goldoni in the centre.
The proposal
«A step towards the Film Festival» states the mayor Daniele Silvetti who yesterday morning chaired the meeting in Piazza del Papa in the presence of a delegation of the managers of the premises and the two promoters of the initiative. «A proposal that has never existed in the city» underlines the mayor with a certain pride. Now, however, to put everything in black and white all we need to do is clarify the most important issue: resources. «There are funds coming from Atim at stake» Silvetti says. So there shouldn’t be any major problems on the horizon. The installation will last a month: «From the end of July to the end of August» explains Massimiliano Giometti, commercial manager of the family group. «An original offer in a period in which the city center has usually never been exploited to attract visitors and tourism» underlines the mayor. The cinema in Piazza del Papa, in fact, could save (and not a little) the summer programming orphaned of major events.
The flicker
The maxi arena at the port, in fact, will remain set up for the entire month of July, but on the program – for now – there are only two events: Vasco Brondi and Malika Ayane followed by the Skin DJ set. Not much, compared to the shows of an overflowing Senigallia, just to make a comparison. Luckily, then, the Giometti-Smeriglio couple who set out to bring a pop project aimed at the general public to the city centre. «The films will be archive ones, released last season. The most successful ones at the box office” explains Giometti. To which will be added meetings and presentations with directors and actors. «Notes of color that embellish the proposal» he underlines. How it works: «There are two screens – he continues – the one facing the Pope for a more intimate and intimate living room. The other, on the square, for those who want to watch the film while sipping a good glass of wine or even having dinner on the terraces of the premises.”
The finishes
All that remains to be defined is the final details: «We are thinking of a paid ticket for the audience on the steps and a cinema plus consumption formula for the local side. But the managers of the bars in the square will have to think about this last aspect” specifies Giometti. Within a week or ten days they will all meet again to take stock of the situation.
