“Life in the Middle” by Andrea Parena at the Piccolo Cinema in Turin | News

Tuesday 18 June at 9.00 pm the Piccolo Cinema (Via Cavagnolo, 7 – Turin) will dedicate an evening to the documentary “Life in between” directed by Andrea Parena.

The director will be present at the screening Andrea Parena and the producer Francesca Frigo.

Life in between”, created in 2021 with the support of Film Commission Turin Piedmont – Piedmont Doc Film Fundreturns to screening in Turin after its theatrical release at the beginning of 2022 by National Cinema Museum Association, who had followed the first festival in Visions from the World Milan in September 2021 and after going broadcast on Morocco’s main public TV, 2M TVtwice in prime time, with a total audience of 3 million viewers.

The documentary was filmed between Turin and the city of Khouribga in Morocco.
It is a family story and, in particular, it is the story of a son; a boy born in Morocco and raised in Italy. His story is captured in the crucial moment of the transition to adult life, the moment in which it is his turn to build his own family. This puts him face to face with profound conflicts, a reckoning that comes from having grown up in Europe, but coming from a family deeply rooted in Islamic traditions and religion. A disagreement that will lead him to a painful choice, to a definitive turning point in his life.
A journey into the complex, contradictory, even disturbing folds that hold together existences poised between two cultures and, at the same time, mark lives that always flow on the ridge, on the edge of both worlds. It is no coincidence that the Moroccan part is set between Khouribga and the countryside that surrounds it: that is the rural area from which most of the Moroccans who emigrated to Turin come.
Life in between” therefore fits into a collective history and condenses it into itself. The film contains materials fromArmando Ceste Archive and from Corrado Iannelli Fund cared for byAMNC.

Life in between” is produced by BabyDoc Film in collaboration with 2M TV, Images du Sud and the support of Film Commission Turin Piedmont – Piedmont Doc Film Fund and has participated in several markets and labs at various international festivals, including the Marché du Film Cannes – Cannes Docs – Showcase Italy 2020L’IDS – Italian Doc Screenings Rough Cut Lab 2021The Regards sur l’Atlas – Festival International du Film de Marrakech 2019 and the Turin Film Industry – Piedmont Doc Meeting 2019.
