“The elections of 8 and 9 June demonstrate how, both at a national and local level, it is possible to build an alternative to the right-wing government”: it is the municipal secretariat of the democratic party of Lucca who intervenes and, although expressing displeasure about the continuous increase in abstentionism, says it is satisfied with the results obtained by the party.
“In such a context and with a political center of gravity that in Europe increasingly tends to shift to the right, the national result of the Democratic Party led by Elly Schlein takes on even more importance, with 24 percent higher than what the polls predicted– they declare – The growth, compared to the last political elections, is also in the number of absolute votes (the only party in these elections, together with AVS, to have increased its votes), thanks to a political proposal which was also able to convince many voters who in the elections 2022 had not gone to vote and this time they represent 11 percent of the over 5.6 million votes collected”.
The PD, by electing 21 MEPs, is now the largest delegation within the European Socialists party group: “A presence that will also allow it to have a greater impact on the group’s choices in the coming years– they continue – A result that is the result of the teamwork that the Democratic Party has been able to do, of a convincing program, of strong candidatures proposed in all the constituencies and of a widespread electoral campaign across the territory. In fact, the data that indicates the PD as the most voted party among young people aged between 18 and 29 is very positive. An outcome that confirms how the party continues to be the pivot of what must be an alliance and an alternative political proposal to the Meloni government”.
While at the Tuscan level the Democratic Party confirms itself as the first party, in the territory of the municipality of Lucca the result is even superior to the national one and, according to the PD secretariat, demonstrates the quality of the work carried out both in the municipal council and in the territory: a 26.5% which, added to the excellent general figure of the centre-left forces, indicates that a strong alternative is also possible in Lucca.
“We find the signs of discontent when we are among people– highlights the municipal PD secretary Gabriele Marchi– In addition to the excellent municipal data, in many electoral sections the Democratic Party has returned to being the first party and in others it is not so by a few votes. A significant result and signs of trust from an electorate that we will have to intercept with increasingly widespread work across the territory. I thank all the volunteers who have been involved in the electoral campaign in recent months“.
“The Democratic Party confirms itself as a strong and plural community which proposes and elects well-prepared personalities to the European Parliament and which also confirms the excellent work of its administrators in the municipalities voting– they conclude – For our part, we are very satisfied with the outcome of the local elections where, even in the province of Lucca, there are many municipalities reconfirmed by the centre-left and often with very high percentages. Even where we unfortunately lost, we were still competitive in often difficult contexts. We join in thanking all the mayoral and councilor candidates for the extraordinary work done and for a general outcome that instills confidence”.
