It is Mayor Russo who intervenes on the start of work on the seaside promenade of Via Nizza which has seen a large portion of the Natarella beach affected by construction sites and effectively impassable. The protests of the people of Savona, for a summer that lies ahead alongside the bulldozers, were not long in coming and the Municipality explains the reasons for starting the works in the middle of summer.

“Given the start of work on the promenade – says mayor Marco Russo – and after reading the statements of the manager of the kiosk in the Natarella area (which rather surprised us) and of a citizen, it seems useful to summarize some information. To minimize the inconvenience, which is inevitable given that there is a construction site, we have chosen to postpone the work on the two sections that are not free beaches until after the summer: the kiosk and the Raphael bathrooms”.

“Before the works began, councilor Parodi and I carried out an inspection on site – Russo continues – and we met the concessionaires of the kiosk in question, the Raphael bathrooms and the representatives of the marine bathrooms to explain the management of the construction site and the timetable of the works and to allow a direct discussion with the director of works and the company for the practical management of the summer. It was an extremely useful meeting which enabled all parties to protect their respective positions. He adds, however, that, beyond that inspection, the Municipality remains available to citizens and economic operators for any need”.

“Having said this, however – declares Russo – it is clear that reducing inconvenience to zero is impossible in the presence of a construction site and that in the stretches of beach that are not in front of the kiosk the work must be done now, otherwise it would be impossible to complete it within the end of the year, an essential date in order not to lose the funding”.

The Municipality urgently needs to finish the works within the year so as not to lose the funding and the construction site’s inconveniences will remain for some time.

“Everyone knows – concludes Russo – that we would have preferred to avoid the summer period, but that it could not have been done differently, given the difficulty in obtaining materials and the exceptional increase in costs in the post-pandemic period. Finally, it seems appropriate to recall one last piece of information: since its origins, the promenade project has exclusively concerned the portions not subject to concession for marine bathing, because it is expected that those sections will be built by future concessionaires of the relevant sections of the beach”.
