ANCONA – When you win, you can talk calmly. And also remove some stones. Everything becomes easier when you have 130 thousand preferences behind you: this is the case of Matteo Ricci. “The recovery begins for the Democratic Party and for the Marche region, because now we must start again from this extraordinary victory. An unprecedented record in the Marche, 52 thousand preferences, but also because one in three Marche residents voted for the PD” underlines the former mayor of Pesaro who managed to get Rome and Ancona to agree on his name.
He flies to Brussels, but keeps the Marche in his sights. For what happened and what will happen. “Today my commitment as an MEP begins. But let’s be clear, I will be even more present here because I want to deal with all issues of the territory: I will try, as an MEP, to be a point of reference for administrators and social forces. I would like the party – he comments – to finally consider me a resource, not a threat. Enough teasing, as happened in this election campaign.”
And out of spite it was to nominate three people from the Marche region, which left Morani out and not him. “The first objective I set myself – continues Ricci – is to work to strengthen the Democratic Party, with the team and friends who allowed us to bring home this excellent result. A plural and strong Democratic Party, which can compete with the right in the Government of the Region. I will be constantly present throughout the Marche and I will relaunch my challenge at Acquaroli. I hope that this time he doesn’t run away and isn’t replaced by yet another tutor like Ciccioli, who I will already see enough of in Brussels and maybe even on the plane. What I would like, giving my all as an MEP, is to help my party build a project for the Marche and when the time comes we will identify together the strongest, most authoritative and competitive candidacy for the leadership of our Region”.
And that he still thinks about his region is demonstrated by the comment: “Now it is essential to get down to earth to win the run-offs in Urbino, Osimo and Recanati. For us Democrats, the fight to build the alternative begins today.”
Unity will certainly be needed, as the regional secretary Bomprezzi, to whom Ricci dedicated his last message, was absent yesterday: “Get help, I’m available. But let’s really open up a unified phase of the PD, enough with personalism.” Ready to collaborate are the Fermo Dems Nicolai and Pompozzi, who from the first moment chose to support the mayor of Pesaro together with Canzonetta and Toce, unlike the Dem leaders who focused on Morani and Zingaretti. This too will be a reason for clarification in the next long weeks.
