Professor Christian Corsi, director of the Department of Communication Sciences, has been elected new rector of the University of Teramo, succeeding Professor Dino Mastrocola. Corsi prevailed with 239 votes against the 232 obtained by Professor Salvatore Cimini, former director general of the University until March 3rd. The election took place in the thesis room of the Spaventa center on the Coste Sant’Agostino campus, with the participation of students, teachers and technical-administrative staff.

Corsi, the youngest rector of Italian public universities and the first from Teramo to hold this position in the history of the University, is a full professor of Business Economics and has held various important roles within the University, including Pro-rector of Orientation, Placement and Student Welfare, as well as coordinator of the PhD course in Economics in Social Science.

Its programme, entitled “A new model of development: the systemic University”, aims to consider the University as an organism in which Teaching, Research and Third Mission are closely interconnected. The formulation of the program involved the UNITE community through 453 individual meetings, 16 group meetings and 8 assemblies, with the aim of building a competitive and inclusive University, capable of enhancing diversity and promoting the sharing of ideas.

Highlights of the Christian Corsi program:

Students at the center: Creation of a permanent table in constant dialogue with the Rector, reform of the fee modulation system, improvement of the public transport network, expansion of the categories of student collaboration grants and guarantee of the right to study.

Research: Establishment of a new Research Fundraising area, creation of interdisciplinary research thematic centers, international mobility programs, a research-innovation-action platform and promotion of gender equality in research.

Teaching: Teaching experimentation projects such as flipped classrooms, gamification and debate, strengthening of interdisciplinary teaching, promotion of merit through paths of excellence and open educational resources.

Third Mission: Creation of a laboratory for innovation and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial training program “UNITE entrepreneurial education”, start-up and spin-off incubator “UNITEcube” and Open Innovation platform “OpenUNITE”.

Internationalization: Strengthening of international agreements and the Erasmus+ programme, establishment of the Internship Exchange Network, strengthening of the University Language Center and creation of an International Innovation Hub.

Special projects: Redevelopment of the complex of the former Sant’Antonio Abate Psychiatric Hospital for the construction of classrooms, laboratories, offices and multipurpose spaces, completion of the European AgriBioSerV research center and creation of new structures for the Veterinary Medicine hub.

The Corsi project plan aims to transform the University of Teramo into a center of excellence and innovation, promoting the development of the university community and the surrounding area.
