The Municipality of Bari presented a recognition from the city administration to the athletes, technicians and managers of the Tigers Rugby Bari, the team that this year, after having passed the regional phase undefeated, beat the highly rated teams of Benevento and the glorious Partenope Napoli in the phase interregional and defeated Palermo in the final, achieved the goal of promotion to Serie B.

The club is made up of 30 athletes – students and workers mostly from Bari and the metropolitan area, plus an English athlete and 3 Argentine players – and a board of directors made up of 11 professionals. The ceremony was attended by the team members, the head coach Dario Stellato, the president Gennaro Totaro, the manager Carmine Volpetti, the mini rugby manager Antonella Altini and the councilor for public works Nicola Mele.

“Today we wanted to invite you here to give you the right tribute after the historic promotion to Serie B obtained during the last sports season – said the municipal councilor for Sport, Pietro Petruzzelli -. I also want to tell you that we are now on the home stretch for the completion of the rugby and American football stadium in Catino: councilor Mele informed me a little while ago that they have started to lay the ground for the field, while they are about to finish the various building finishing touches. So at the end of July they should have finished the work and the stadium can finally be delivered to the city. A commitment that the administration made years ago and that will allow you to feel completely at home.

Finally, I want to congratulate you on this hard-earned and well-deserved promotion, which saw you play on the field always keeping in mind the healthy values of sport. A round of applause to all of you, who have created a real movement and worked hard to achieve this result”. “Team sports express the maximum level of sporting energy and desire to be together – added Gennaro Totaro -. We have always considered ourselves a big family, in fact next year, with the arrival of other players, we will see it expand even further. We dedicate this result to everyone, to the players, to the coaches Vitangelo and Dario, to the managers, to our fans and to the many people who have followed us over the years. Among them is certainly Councilor Petruzzelli who has followed us for years. We have always felt his closeness and for this we can only be grateful”. At the end of the initiative, Mayor Antonio Decaro also brought the city’s greetings to the Tigri Rugby Bari team.
