Twenty-third April 2022, Rosanna Aber died at 1.30 pm the day before, falling from the window of her house on the fourth floor in via Einstein, in Colognola. Her housekeeper Krystyna Mykhalchuk searches on her cell phone «what does autopsy mean». On May 13th he types “criminal lawyer”, but the most striking phrase is from May 15th: «How many years do they give for ucide (murder ed) person”. She, a 27-year-old Ukrainian and mother of a little girl, with a house and partner in Scanzorosciate, is on trial in the Court of Assizes for the murder of the 77-year-old lady for whom she worked. According to prosecutors Guido Schininà and Emanuele Marchisio pushed her after the victim discovered the theft of 2,000 euroswith three withdrawals with his ATM.
In the courtroom next to her lawyer Enrico Pelillo (he defends her with his colleague Andrea Pezzotta), the accused listened motionlessly to the policemen’s testimonies. Superintendent William Lazzari looks back at his Google searches. In May she already knew she was under scrutiny, that month her Romanian partner was summoned to the police station. He has always denied having pushed Rosanna Aber and will probably reiterate this in the Court of President Patrizia Ingrascì, alongside Donatella Nava. Intercepted in the Fiat Panda with her partner, on 14 July 2022 she talks about shame because people thought she was a murderer. Cries. The day before he and his mother-in-law talk, worried because she has disappeared. From the GPS and with the investigations the police reconstructed her movements: she had gone for 4 hours to the Curno shopping centre, where she played slots three times, ended up in Fuipiano and then in hospital, with abrasions. The companion suspected a suicidal gesture. He reassures her: “If you had to go to prison, it would have already happened.” In reality she will be arrested on November 15th of the following year by order of the investigating judge, she has been under house arrest for some time.
There is a series of evidence against her. That she had gambling debts emerges from numerous wiretaps and shadowing. Money was stolen from the mother’s partner, the owner of a bar where the accused worked and from another woman for whom she cleaned. To her companion who presses her, she first denies having taken 500 euros (according to the Aber investigations), then admits but “only that”. She denies the ATM withdrawals for herself: “I did them for her.” However, she goes from theft to murder. But for the prosecutors the wiretaps with the cellmate are also important. Mykhalchuk tells her that she was the one who called the ambulance, but that’s not true. Once she tells her that she was with the lady in the room when she fell, another time elsewhere in the apartment.
Aber was 1 meter and 55 centimeters tall, the window 93 centimeters: without a chair underneath and with the bed far away, according to the police it is not possible that she could have climbed into it. Commissioner Gabriele Bombaci and inspector Mirko Badaracco of the Milan forensics team they rule out that the woman was standing on the windowsill. It would have ended up at a distance from the building between 2.06 and 4.5 metres, but instead it was 1.45 compatible with a crouched start. In this sense, two witnesses will be important: they saw the old woman from behind her, sitting on her side, with her arms stretched forward.
