AGRIGENTO – The water emergency arrives in the Prefecture

The first decisions arrive to stem the water emergency in Agrigento and its province: increase in tankers, withdraw water from new wells and restore watermakers. This and much more arose during a technical meeting held in the Prefecture in the presence of the police, the Aica leaders, the ASP of Agrigento and the mayors of Agrigento, Favara, Licata. Municipality of Agrigento and Aica have studied a new system with the use of tankers to bring water to citizens and commercial and tourist structures of the city of temples.

“The tankers will only be able to operate if they transport controlled, paid for and above all clean Aica water. There will be a notice, they will register on a list, and the truck drivers will have a document certifying that they are in compliance, because sanctions from the police will also be triggered”, said the prefect of Agrigento Filippo Romano. “The tanker cannot enter many streets of the historic centre, I have asked to provide the municipality of Agrigento with small vehicles to supply some users”, added the mayor Franco Miccichè.

In Agrigento, water will also be taken from two sources: from the Bonamorone source and from the one in via Solferino which is the one that a private individual has spontaneously made available.

“It will be a summer where we will be called to make conscious, intelligent and rational use of water – said Settimio Cantone, president of the Aica Board of Directors -. In the capital we are trying to stem the situation. Tomorrow we will go to carry out an inspection in a private owner in the Solferino district and then the famous Bonamorone water, which we will take further upstream. The solution is not around the corner, but we are trying to limit the inconvenience.”

Finally, Enel has made the watermaker available which supplies 28 cubic metres, it is small but functional and refueling with the tankers can be done continuously because they have accumulation tanks and you don’t have to wait for the water to be desalinated. And there is the possibility of restoring the Porto Empedocle watermaker that has long been decommissioned. In the Government’s intervention pact, almost six million are already available for the province of Agrigento for wells, and another 20 million for desalination plants and other sources.
