A solidarity ride to raise awareness and involve the population on important issues such as scientific research is organized by the ASD Bike Torrese, which has chosen AISM, the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association and its Foundation (FISM) to raise funds. The “Pedaling the 2024 message” left this morning from Santa Susanna Tower, in the province of Brindisi, to then touch the Salento capital and continue towards Taranto, Matera, Maratea, Potenza and finally Cosenza. The cyclists will arrive in the city of Sassi tomorrow 12 June at 5.00 pm about, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto where, awaiting their arrival, it is explained in a note “you will be able to try your hand at the now famous AISM laboratory “Feel how I feel”, an experiential laboratory that allows everyone to try to understand how a person with multiple sclerosis feels. The laboratory suggests wearing a pair of glasses capable of simulating optic neuritis, trying to read the front page of the city newspaper. Or try to drink from a glass when you have an electrostimulator attached to your hand that makes it difficult to control the most banal movements of your fingers. You can try writing or buttoning a very simple jacket with a glove. we could try to move using an inflatable leg or with weights on the arms or legs, so as to complicate our ability to carry out a normal walk and understand some of that chronic tiredness that affects 80 percent of people with MS.”
