Rimini, 12 June 2024 – He is the new face in yellow by Pierina Paganelli, the 78-year-old stabbed to death in via del Ciclamino in Rimini. After the criminologist Roberta Bruzzonealready in the defense pool of the only suspect Louis Dassilvanow another prominent face is inserted into the plot of the Rimini mystery: the general Luciano Garofano. “Yes, as a consequence of the request (of the defense of Dassilva, ed) to carry them out in an evidentiary incident. A decision that will be taken by the investigating judge in about ten days, but which does not essentially change the investigations, which will be carried out by the experts appointed by the judge rather than those of the prosecutor and will go directly among the elements of evidence in the trial, if there is one” .
She spent her life taking exams like this. For the murder in Rimini, what do you expect?
“I expect them to be a fundamental piece of the investigation. The answers that arrive will be objective. This is why these investigations are an indispensable tool that could prove decisive in the long investigation.”
Long, yes. More than eight months since the flying squad intervened in that Via del Ciclamino where Pierina died. Why did the times take so long?
“First of all, the seriousness of those who investigate, who have certainly examined all possible leads with great care in this time. It means a large amount of investigations and material to sift through. And then the mysterious accident of his son Giuliano, so it took time to verify a possible connection.”
Compared to the many crimes you have dealt with as an investigator, what is the peculiarity of the Rimini detective story?
“Every murder is complex in its own way. In this case I am struck by the banality of evil. A respected and respectable woman was killed. It is a crime for which it is difficult to find a reason. Even if there is one fact that is clear…”.
Which?
“The crime was organised. Whoever killed Pierina in that way could not have done so without knowing in detail the victim’s schedule and habits.”
And what pushed you to accept the role of consultant to Manuela Bianchi?
“It’s my job and I’m very curious about this case. From a professional point of view it seemed interesting to me to enter at this point of the investigation, with the possibility of then analyzing all the work of the Prosecutor’s Office to give my interpretation to this strange murder”.
You are a consultant to Manuela Bianchi, with whom the suspect Dassilva had an extramarital affair. And Dassilva’s consultant, Roberta Bruzzone, said that Manuela’s figure is not completely convincing. What do you think?
“I think we need to think about the documents acquired. Being moved by sensations, even if the result of professionalism, can also be dangerous. I take note of the statements, but I prefer to reason on the basis of objective elements in the investigative compendium”.
