Dear director Franceschi,
the lack of staff at all levels within the various RSAs in Trentino has now been a chronic situation that has been known for years, but unfortunately no real attempt has ever been made to resolve it in a concrete and definitive manner. The many operators who decide to make a move to APSS as soon as they can should make us think. Perhaps the workload and remuneration in RSAs are not at the levels of those who work in healthcare companies? Maybe the responsibility is not the same?
The situation of staff shortages became particularly accentuated during the pandemic period and has remained so in recent years, if not worsened. Those affected most are those directly affected, i.e. the residents of the various facilities for the elderly in the area. Starting from the premise that I wholeheartedly thank the operators who currently serve in the Trentino RSAs and who really put all their effort into this difficult situation, it cannot be denied that due to the lack of staff, sometimes and especially during the holidays or on weekends, many residents remain sadly in their beds. Those who cannot eat alone or have no relatives even risk skipping meals.
With what each resident currently pays in monthly fees, wouldn’t they have the right to be managed in an excellent manner on a daily basis? I think so! This situation is no longer acceptable! Today, the priority thing is certainly the allocation of funds for new hires in the various RSAs in the area. The situation is quite serious and without any intervention soon, we risk the collapse of some structures. The Trentino population is ageing, the numbers and statistics tell us so! We can no longer pull on an already tight rope, we really risk it breaking suddenly and we can’t afford this!
