Pisa: The Municipality becomes a forum

On June 16th, like every year, the Luminara arrives.

Great event included in the “Pisan June” but in 2024 we have great news:

the Municipality of Pisa becomes a private grandstand for fireworks, exclusively reserved for the Mayor’s guests.

Municipal employees whose offices overlook the Arno river have been invited to clear their desks of any paperwork, respecting their privacy and security.

Something like this had never happened before: access to the municipal buildings for the evening of the illuminations had always been forbidden even to the employees themselves, leaving them like all the other spectators to admire the show from the riverside.

Beyond the question of principle, it will still be very difficult to clear out the offices also because in many of these there are no lockable cupboards in which to store any files or paperwork of various kinds: it will be up to the employees themselves to do their best, slowing down their work and without the certainty of be able to succeed.

Considering that some employees will be working to recover, the Municipality has not yet responded to the request to move the public holiday for the staff involved.

We look forward to receiving “enlightenment” from the municipal administration which cares more about safeguarding its own image than the organizational well-being of its employees.

Below is an extract from the text of the communication sent to all employees of the Municipality of Pisa

“… In anticipation of the Luminara on the 16th of this month, in order to allow access to guests invited by the Municipal Administration, the employees who occupy the offices of Palazzo Gambacorti – Mosca overlooking the Arno river are kindly requested to provide clear, by the afternoon of Friday 14 June, their desks of personal objects, personal and office deeds and documents, also in relation to the needs of personal data protection.

It is also hereby specified that on the evening of the Luminara, access to Palazzo Gambacorti will be reserved only for staff on duty and guests with an invitation.”
