Giampiero Gualandi, a 62-year-old former commander of the local police of Anzola Emilia, remains in prison accused of the aggravated voluntary murder of Sofia Stefani, 33, his former colleague with whom he had had a relationship. The Court of Freedom of Bologna did not in fact accept the appeal of the defense, lawyer Claudio Benenati, and confirmed the precautionary custody order of the investigating judge. Stefani was killed on May 16 in the offices of the local police command. Gualandi defended himself by saying that it was an accident, a shot from the service pistol fired by mistake during a struggle. The Prosecutor’s Office is convinced that it was a voluntary homicide and the investigating judge had also followed this approach. “The decision of the Court of Review which confirmed the precautionary custody in prison for the suspect Giampiero Gualandi also confirms the validity of the reasons for the precautionary request requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. I believe that the murder of Sofia Stefani, which took place in the office of the local police of Anzola dell’Emilia where Gualandi worked is voluntary. The evidence available today supports and confirms the reconstructive picture acquired by the public prosecution”, says the lawyer Andrea Speranzoni, defender of the victim’s family. “Some investigations that have been arranged by the Bologna Prosecutor’s Office are underway, as is the work of our party consultants. As defender of the family of the victim Sofia Stefani I will work with the utmost attention on every piece of evidence, contributing to the path of justice , the only possible and necessary response to the violence that characterizes this murder”, adds Speranzoni.
