BUSTO ARSIZIO – Mascherine case, the Public Prosecutor of Busto Arsizio Ciro Caramore asked for indictment for Irene Pivetti (not present in the courtroom) and for all the other defendants. The hearing this morning in court in Busto in front of the Gup Anna Giorgetti which established that the trial should be celebrated in the courtrooms of the Palagiustizia in Via Volturno and not be transferred elsewhere (Milan or Rome) as requested by the defence.
The accusations
Although the Gup has already decided, this morning the defenders have returned to proposing exceptions on the territorial incompetence of the Bustocco court. Exceptions once again rejected. The former president of the Chamber Irene Pivetti is accused in various capacities, together with her daughter, her son-in-law, the entrepreneur Luciano Mega and others involved in public procurement fraud, bankruptcy, embezzlement, money laundering and self-laundering in connection with a sale from China of face masks worth total of 35 million euros arrive at Malpensa during the emergency Covid. According to the accusation, personal protective equipment worth only 10 million was delivered, of poor quality, practically unusable and with a false CE mark.
Request for indictment
Today the prosecutor asked for everyone to be sent to trial. Request which was supported by the 13 civil parties appearing in court (among these are Lo State, the Ministry of the Interior, the Customs Agency, the Revenue Agency, in addition to the main hospital medical facilities that received the masks at issue). The defense requested that proceedings be dismissed. None of the defendants asked to be admitted to alternative rites. On Friday 14 June, at the end of the defenders’ discussions, the decision of the Gup Giorgetti is expected.
