Commissioner Grandolfo fires the commander of the local police

He had already been suspended for involvement in the “Hands off” judicial investigation

THE SAGA which is not at all gratifying but on the contrary strongly penalizing the image of Manfredonia, of the administrative and judicial events of the Municipality of Manfredonia, is enriched with a new chapter which naturally connects to the many others already written and in progress. It concerns the Chief Commissioner of the local Police, Vincenzo D’Anzeris: the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Municipality of Manfredonia, vice prefect Rachele Grandolfo, issued an order for the dismissal of the aforementioned commander whom she had already removed from that office last March.

THE REASONS for the measures of Commissioner Grandolfo are linked to the involvement of D’Anzeris in the events of the ongoing judicial investigation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Foggia “Hands off” which has produced, among other restrictive measures, the arrest under house arrest of the former councilor Angelo Salvemini of the Rotice council. Vincenzo D’Anzeris ended up under investigation among the events under investigation by the Judiciary, as he allegedly provided false information to the Public Prosecutor or in any case remained silent on certain aspects of the facts in which he intervened due to his institutional function.

IN THIS REGARD, Commissioner Grandolfo hastened to revoke with immediate effect the decree of 21 November 2023 by which D’Anzeris was appointed interim commander of the local police force. At the same time, vice prefect Grandolfo, making use of the agreement with the Municipality of Torremaggiore, appointed the commander of the local police of Manfredonia, limited to two days a week, the commander of the local police of Torremaggiore, Dr. Donato Sangiorgio.

NOW the drastic dismissal measure two months after D’Anzeris’s retirement, which rightly and dutifully clarifies the Municipality-employee relationship in a crucial administrative sector of the Authority such as that of the local police, further exacerbates the dark shadows that have fallen on events that were unraveling at Palazzo San Domenico. At stake, it is well understood, is the credibility of the institutions, in the specific case of the government body that is key to the life of the city, which is increasingly the subject of interventions by higher institutions. In the last five years, more than half of the administrative activity has been entrusted to state officials. But the entire municipal history of Manfredonia includes continuous dispatches of prefectural and extraordinary commissioners to make up for the locals’ inability to govern themselves. An increasingly opaque story crossed by situations that remain in the background as the presence of as many as twenty-six Manfredonians among the 45 accused and convicted in the context of the “Omnia nostra” mafia affair under the attention of the Court of Bari seems to suggest.

THE current political-administrative moment is one of the most difficult and dramatic in many respects. The city has been greatly emptied of its citizens capable of supporting the expectations of the varied and gifted territory left almost adrift. A decisive and robust effort would be needed that takes advantage of the many valuable resources that one finds and above all does justice to the setbacks and disappointments suffered.
