The Potere al Popolo association of Catanzaro harshly criticizes the Fiorita administration: “Nothing has changed in these two years”

“Nothing has changed!

In light of the great maneuvers that are taking place at Palazzo de Nobili, our analysis carried out over these two years, from the date of the election of Mayor Fiorita to today, and also in the last open assembly, is proving to be punctual, correct and truthful.

On May 24th the first assembly open to citizens convened by the territorial node of Potere al Popolo was held at the Casa del Popolo “Thomas Sankara” in Catanzaro. The meeting allowed the militants of the political formation to discuss with the citizens the three points on the agenda: 1) Transformism and continuity with the past: what has changed with the Fiorita Administration? 2) Unresolved issues: from water scarcity to the absence of social services 3) Creation of a platform to improve local public services and enhance common goods.

Also present at the Assembly was the former candidate for Mayor, Avv. Francesco Di Lieto, as well as representatives of civil society. The discussion began with an important question widely shared by the citizens present: how can this City Council have exponents of the Forza Italia party among the ranks of the majority and the opposition? Only a few days ago the Hon. Antonello Talerico has in fact decided to take up the membership card of the party with which he had been nominated and elected to the Regional Council, Forza Italia, and then moved (once the appeal was won) to the Mixed Group. And we also remember that the Honorable Member, in the run-off, sided with Fiorita in his race for the position of mayor. (As is known, among the lists that supported Talerico’s candidacy for Mayor was the “Noi con l’Italia” list, inspired by Tallini). Read the declarations of Domenico Tallini, recalled in the speeches during the assembly, released immediately on the night of the electoral count on the Vota Antonio program broadcast on the online channel of the Calabria 7 newspaper.

So what has changed with the Fiorita Administration? Nothing!

Overall, there is continuity with previous centre-right administrations. In fact, the assembly found that the atavistic problems that have been plaguing citizens for decades have not only not found solutions, but are not even addressed. The testimonies collected speak of the difficulties of the daily life of citizens who from north to south suffer from water shortages in their homes, finding themselves faced with very high and unconstitutional municipal tariffs, a purifier that has never stopped emitting its odors, the uncertainty of being able to live a protected life in the event of illness and also relevant social problems such as the multiple conditions of poverty that rage throughout the city and which are addressed as a matter of public order and safety. There was no shortage of memory of the story of Mimmo Rocca, suffering from SMA and for whom a committee had to be created to guarantee the economic support that has been missing for too long for the citizen of Tiriolo and who has waited in vain for responses from the Lead Municipality of Social Sector, Catanzaro precisely. The assembly concluded with proposals that will be reflected in the coming weeks: the meeting with the neighborhood committees who have taken action to claim above all the lack of water in the city and active research into the conditions of widespread poverty in the neighborhoods of the capital. The entire assembly assessed last afternoon’s discussion as extremely necessary in a city where political debate should take place in the streets, among ordinary people and not inside the city hall, which is increasingly in the vortex of political contradiction.
