Bad weather in the Brescia area: alarm during the night in Sarezzo for two cars in the overflowing river

The bad weather that hit in the Brescia area yesterday evening, bringing damage and flooding to a large part of the province, it continued into the night. The rain and wind raged until around dawn, when everything finally calmed down, leaving room for the sun and the damage to be assessed.

Gussago: La Canale floods

Multiple interventions at night by the firefighters who responded to requests for help due to flooding and fallen trees.

Flooded cellars and landslides in Brione, where a lot of damage was reported. Rocks and debris invaded the roads and the road that connects Brione to Gussago. Very critical situation right in Gussago where the La Canale stream that flows through the town overflowed. The streets were flooded with water, inundating houses and shops.

Temporarily again the sp510 in Gussago closed in the stretch between kilometer 0+969 and kilometer 3+150. Due to bad weather, the Laorna canal flooded again, causing another section of its embankment to collapse. The road, as communicated by the Province of Brescia, has no particular critical issues but has nevertheless been closed for safety reasons, pending the appropriate checks.

In Sarezzo car in the river

Another complex situation in Sarezzo where, shortly after one o’clock, the alarm went off due to two cars being dragged into the Mella. The frantic search and rescue operations began on the edge of the Mella in a ditch that flows into the river a short distance away, shortly after the alarm reached the emergency numbers: the firefighters immediately started looking for people who they could be dispersed among the waves of the water mass which fell from the nearby mountains along the streets of Sarezzo, sweeping away two cars from the garages and which then ended up in a nearby canal.
So in an instant via della Fonte was illuminated by the blue flashing lights of the emergency vehicles, while the fear that someone had been victimized by the uncontrolled force of the water gradually grew stronger. Under a gloomy and dark sky lashed at times by flashes, lightning and splashes of water in gusts of wind, the firefighters worked on the search operations. An intervention that took place for some time in the middle of the night in the canal flowed by an enormous quantity of water. An intervention made difficult and dangerous by the pouring rain he never gave the operators any respite during all the exciting phases of the rescue.

Many interventions were carried out during the night, the most complex in Sarezzo for two cars in the overflowing river

Then the epilogue: the two cars swept away by the flood wave that descended from the mountains among debris, branches and trunks in reality they were empty, parked for the night. Via della Fonte is a road that runs parallel to the course of the Mella and which separates the river from the «Enrico Redaelli» sports field with the route of a canal a few meters wide.

It goes without saying that yesterday evening it significantly swelled the waterways and the Mella, requiring a few moments of attention to check its progress and levels. Suddenly someone saw the cars being pushed and at times physically carried by the water and ending up in the riverbed.
From there the alarm and fortunately the news that no one had been caught by the flood of the river.
Shortly after half past one the carabinieri then closed provincial road 345 for fear that the bridges could give way to floods. With huge transit problems for vehicles in transit.

The situation in Sulzano

Due to the torrential rains in Sulzano a landslide hit not far from the “La Darsena” club. Here a boulder has blocked part of the watercourse of a stream. Mud and debris poured down the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway lineblocking the movement of trains. Thanks to the intervention of the technicians on the network during the night, the tracks were cleared and traffic was able to slowly resume, not without inconvenience or delays. As reported on the Trenord website, it is possible that route changes may occur for the following trains:

  • – 10909 (Iseo 5.45 – Brescia 6.19)
  • – 10915 (Iseo 6.50 – Brescia 7.30)
  • – 1913 (Pisogne 6:03 – Brescia 7:11) leaves from Iseo
  • – 2908 (Iseo 5:32 – Edolo 7:35)
  • – 1915 (Breno 6:00 – Brescia 7:44) leaves from Pisogne
  • – 1919 (Breno 6.40 – BRESCIA 8.21) leaves from Darfo-Corna
  • – 918 (Brescia 7.56 – Edolo 10.19)

In the Lower

Some towns in the Lower have also been battered by the water bomb of this night. In Pontevico a stretch of road collapsed recently on the provincial road that connects the municipality to Quinzano, the Verolanuova volunteer firefighters were also on site. Fire night for the volunteers of the Civil Protection of Pontevico who have been at work since tonight.

«We have done over one twenty interventions from tonight to one o’clock – this is the story of the president of the Civil Protection of Pontevico Claudio Pellegri -. From Pontevico to Bassano, we are now working on Robecco. 28 volunteers with seven vehicles were involved.”

No flooding or structural failures at the moment in the municipality of Quinzano d’Oglio, where however there are dozens of flooded houses. «Unfortunately, tonight’s event was an extraordinary meteorological event which put the stability of our territory to the test and was unable to drain all the water. Both the Oglio river both the Savarona canal had an already high water level so they are now under special observation, also following any hydraulic maneuvers from Lake Iseo”.
